At the table with Sue · North Cronulla

NOA,
North Cronulla.

Beach views through the windows, food with a playful streak and a welcome that makes you feel at home. Come out for a meal with us.

01 / The welcome

A little beach air.
A very warm welcome.

There’s something lovely about heading out for a meal with the beach just around the corner. NOA sits close to the sand at North Cronulla, and that easy coastal feeling carries through into the room.

The decor feels modern, beachy and breezy. It’s a warm place to settle in, with enough care in the setting to make lunch or dinner feel like an occasion. We could see ourselves coming as a couple, with friends or with the family. The atmosphere felt welcoming across all of those possibilities.

Being this close to North Cronulla is part of the appeal. You can make the meal the centre of the outing, then leave yourself a little time to walk along the esplanade afterwards. It’s a simple way to enjoy more of the place, especially if you’re visiting from outside the area.

Once we had settled in, it was the menu that held our attention. We found an inventive take on Australian cuisine, with familiar ingredients appearing in combinations and presentations that made us curious. The attention to detail was there from the first plates.

02 / To begin

Three starters.
Three different ideas.

Spanner crab taco, charcoal ham hock chips and bug toast. A first course that gave us plenty to talk about.

Sweetness from
the crab.

The spanner crab taco had a delightfully smooth texture, with the sweet flavour of the crab coming through. Its presentation invited a closer look, but the pleasure was in eating it. A small dish with plenty of care behind it.

A different sort
of chip.

The charcoal ham hock chips brought another distinctive flavour to the table. Their striking presentation sat beautifully alongside the seafood starters, with the same care and attention to detail. A varied opening to the meal.

A gentle crunch.
A lovely bite.

The bug toast was a delight. Seafood flavours met a gentle crunch and a pleasant texture, giving it a satisfying balance. Its appearance drew us in, while the combination of flavours made this a lovely way to begin the meal.

03 / The people

Service with
a little personality.

The wait staff were warm, attentive and knowledgeable. Best of all, they were friendly, with a little fun in the way they looked after us.

They could talk us through the food and the thinking behind the menu, explaining how the dishes had been put together and why those combinations had been chosen. I appreciated hearing about that process. It gave me a greater understanding of the care behind what we were eating.

For me, that is an important part of good service: a team who understand the food well enough to share the thinking behind it. Their warmth and humour made those conversations a pleasure and added to our enjoyment of the meal.

04 / Two plates

Fish, beef
and the finishing touches.

We chose the John Dory and the peppered beef carpaccio, with chips and a leaf salad alongside.

The fish holds
its own.

The John Dory was excellent, with a satisfying, meaty texture. Its parsley, pea and caper sauce brought soft, complementary flavours that finished the fish beautifully.

I particularly enjoyed that balance. The main ingredient still had a clear presence, while the accompaniments gave you more to enjoy with each mouthful.

A gentler
take on beef.

The peppered beef carpaccio offered something quite different. The flavour was gentle and the texture just right, with the parmesan sorrel bringing a fresh twist to the dish.

Having both plates on the table made this part of the meal especially enjoyable. The fish and beef each gave us a different combination of flavours and textures to explore.

Alongside

A little more
for the table.

The chips and leaf salad with watermelon and yuzu rounded out the meal. Together with the two plates, they gave us plenty to enjoy, and the portion sizes were well judged.

We felt satisfied, with enough room and curiosity left for dessert. That’s a very good place to be when you’re still looking forward to the next course.

05 / Something sweet

Leave room
for a little fun.

Lemon posset and a playful take on fairy bread brought two very different finishes to the table.

Lemon, coconut
and shortbread.

Our lemon posset came with coconut and shortbread, continuing the attention to presentation we had enjoyed throughout the meal. It made a lovely-looking partner to the rather more mischievous dessert beside it.

NOA’s take on fairy bread.

A familiar idea.
A playful finish.

NOA’s fairy bread brought ice cream and hundreds and thousands, with a cold topping added over it at the table. That final touch gave the course a little theatre and made us smile. It was a joyful way to revisit something so familiar.

Value for money

Did it feel
worth it?

The prices were in line with what we would expect for a restaurant of this calibre. The service met that expectation too. For us, the care in the food, the presentation and the way we were treated all belonged in that assessment.

What stayed with me was the consistency of the attention to detail. It ran through the starters, the larger plates and the playful finish, with a team whose warmth made the meal feel welcoming.

06 / Our take

A meal to
make time for.

NOA gave us an enjoyable combination: considered food, friendly service and a modern coastal setting. We liked the sense that the meal could be special while still feeling comfortable for families and couples alike.

If that sounds like your kind of outing, leave a little extra time around the booking. North Cronulla Beach is close by, and an esplanade walk is a lovely way to carry on the conversation after the meal.
